Prepping Your Home for Summer Guests
Independence Day is just around the corner and that means that guests will soon be filling your home and backyard. We want you to spend less time cleaning and preparing and more time enjoying your guests this holiday! So we’ve compiled a collection of simple tips to prep your home for summer guests.
During the winter we tend to hibernate in front of the TV. But for summer, it’s time to change up your seating plan! Scoot the chairs back and move the couch to create an open space for guests to mingle. Add splash of summer to the living room by tossing colorful throw pillows on the furniture.
The kitchen is a huge gathering place for families. Bring the summer indoors with a fresh flower arrangement in bold colors and coordinating napkins and place settings. Schedule a routine maintenance appointment for your refrigerator to make sure your drinks and desserts are the perfect temperature.
During the day, the sun is the only light you need! Change out thick winter curtains for lighter window treatments that will flow in the breeze. Keep your windows open to let in the warm summer air and set your ceiling fan to rotate counterclockwise to keep the house cool. To prevent your party from ending too soon, install energy efficient lighting outdoors.
Before your guests arrive, make sure your floors are in
tip-top shape. Schedule a professional floor cleaning in advance and maintain their look by regularly vacuuming and sweeping. Place doormats at every indoor/outdoor entry way to trap dust, dirt, and grime that are often tracked in on the bottoms of shoes. If you have pets, you may choose to have them groomed to reduce the amount of pet hair and dander in your home.
These few simple steps will help keep your home guest friendly all summer long. Who knows when an impromptu neighborhood cook-out could spring up right in your backyard!
